Angel in Carmel

“I’ve locked my keys in my car. My dog is in there!” I blurted out over something the kind stranger was saying. It was July 25, steaming hot, and the windows were all up.

I’d been pumping gas, agreeing enthusiastically that $2.31 a gallon was a great price, then looked over to check on our black miniature schnauzer, Coco, in the front passenger seat. That was when I’d noticed the back door behind the driver’s seat was locked!

The stranger immediately stepped over to my car and tried the driver’s door. Locked. Then he said, “Hey, the back passenger door is unlocked.”

“That’s impossible!” I declared. The lock was straight up. The other three locks were down. He reached over, opened the back door behind the driver’s seat, pulled the lock up in the front and we were rescued!

I’d had visions of breaking the window rescuing Coco and getting glass in her eye—she’d have been scared and watching.  When we got home, I testing the lock system three or four times. Each time all four doors locked and unlocked simultaneously.

All things considered, I think we came out all right.

If the angel who helped us is reading this, know that we think you are an exceptional human being. My feeble gratitude seems inadequate, but thank you anyway.

  1. Wow!

    I love these stories!

And they are wholesome for the memory bank.

I've come to treasure the good memories. They help me through the rough times.

    Yay Carmel Angel!!

  3. Sorry that comment came through twice.

    Not sure why that happened.

  4. Thank you. I sent this to the local Current (a small "what's happening" newspaper) and got what I always get from them: no reply.
